AEROMEXICO Flies High With New eCommerce Platform

MEXICO CITY, August 29, 2016 – Akana, a leading provider of API Management, API security, and Microservices solutions, announced today that Aeromexico, Mexico's global airline, has launched a new eCommerce platform that includes Akana's API management platform as a core component. Akana enables Aeromexico to be more agile by facilitating secure and manageable application programming interfaces (APIs).

Aeromexico is launching the e-commerce in conjunction with its all-new website, aiming to provide the best digital experience of any Latin American carrier, and part of the total digital transformation of the airline, which serves 45 destinations within Mexico, 17 in the US, 15 in Latin America, 4 in Europe, 3 in Canada and 2 in Asia.

The platform, which the airline integrated in only nine months, includes all-new front-end and middleware components that integrate into its existing back-end. The platform's secure and scalable APIs power both its new website and new airport check-in kiosks. Aeromexico delivered the new check-in kiosks within 4 months, reducing transaction processing time by 50% and increasing the number of customers being checked in without the need to be assisted by a person.

Built on the foundation of the Akana API Management platform that provides enhanced visibility, scale and secure integration capabilities, Aeromexico now has a business and technology platform that allows it to leapfrog ahead in its ability to support its customers - critical at a time which A.T. Kearney described as a “tipping point” for e-commerce in Mexico, demanding world-class experiences.

Benjamin Hernandez, CIO of Aeromexico, said, “Akana has allowed us to come to market quickly with our API, which is a critical component of our digital strategy. With our robust API powering the business rules we were able to deliver our customers fantastic new experiences both at the new check-in kiosks and on the new website in parallel and with quick time-to-market. And this is just the beginning - there are many more proprietary and third-party integrations to come, including emerging channels such as mobile OS push notifications and chatbots.”

“It's gratifying to see the hard work of our partnership pay off with such a strategic platform launch,” said Roberto Medrano, Executive Vice President of Akana. “We are excited to be working with such a forward-looking company as Aeromexico in its transformation into a digital enterprise.”
