LONDON – July 20, 2016 -  Akana, a leading provider of API Management, API security, API Analytics and Microservices solutions for Digital Businesses, announced today that its Akana Platform will power the app development efforts at the upcoming Barclay’s Hackathon. By joining forces with Barclays to sponsor the July 20-21 Hackathon, Akana and Barclays will showcase the same technology that the bank itself is using to manage APIs in its Barclays Developer Network (BDN), a strategic platform for exposing and managing APIs external to Barclays

“We’re excited to be working with our client Barclays on this innovation-intensive event,” said Roberto Medrano, Executive VP of Akana. “This hackathon is a great opportunity to start engaging with the Barclays developer community and support Barclays as they continue to drive innovation with API’s being a key enabler to underpin that.”

Akana will set up and host APIs on their platform. Developers participating at the Hackathon will be using the Akana Platform to manage access and consumption of APIs by their apps. Banking, financial services, and insurance companies are being forced to open up their systems to foster innovation leading to better services for customers. Some companies are able to leverage this emerging interoperability to drive competitive advantage, while others are simply responding to regulatory pressures. Akana’s standards-based, highly-secure platform enables safe and rapid connections between BFSI companies and customers. Interoperability initiatives in BFSI include:

  • PSD2 (Directive on Payment Services) - a European Union directive for the creation of an EU-wide single market for payment services
  • XS2A (‘Access to the Account’) - actually forces banks to facilitate access via API to their customer accounts and provide account information to third party apps

The regulations mandate the use of APIs, and go so far as to require specific auditing and security capabilities for these APIs.

Interoperability
Data Protection

BSFI Data Protection

As banking, financial services, & insurance companies become more open and interoperable, they must ensure that the right people have access to the right data and are able to perform the right tasks. They must eliminate vulnerabilities, and ensure that their systems are properly protected against attacks. Akana offers the industry's most secure solution:

  • Akana is a hardened PCI DSS v3.0 Level 2 certified service provider
  • We use industry leading secure development practices with source code scanning built-in to our continuous delivery processes, combined with regular automated and manual penetration testing to ensure the security of the platform itself
  • Provides a built-in access control system and integrates with leading identity and access management providers
  • Ensures the privacy of data in flight and at rest with a built-in PKI and key distribution model including comprehensive HSM integration
  • Provides integrated denial-of-service and threat prevention
  • Offers the richest authentication and authorization capabilities including; OAuth, OpenID - Integrated STS, SAML 1.1/2.0, and JWT support

Exposing financial data via APIs means paying particular attention to the security and monitoring of these APIs to protect against attacks and risk of data leakage.

Application Modernization

To compete effectively, established BFSI companies must consolidate and modernize their application portfolio taking advantage of advances in architecture and development best practices to quickly deliver applications that can meet their scale, distribution and reliability requirements. Akana's financial services solution includes comprehensive governance and DevOps capabilities:

  • Reorganize applications leveraging APIs and microservices
  • Manage the development lifecycle and assets, including the application topology and deployment blueprints
  • Maintain an audited approval process to control changes to key assets

Modernizing applications with APIs requires careful planning and management of the lifecycle of the applications, APIs, and the development process as a whole to ensure optimal outcomes.

Aeromexico Selects Akana For API-Based Digital Transformation

API Management Platform Key to Becoming Digital Enterprise

Los Angeles, Ca., November 30th, 2015 - Akana, a leading provider of API Management, API security and Cloud Integration solutions, announced today that Aeromexico, Mexico’s flag carrier, has selected Akana’s API management platform to enable its transformation into a digital enterprise. By enabling secure and manageable application programming interfaces (APIs) for Aeromexico, Akana gives the airline the ability to be more agile in its IT operations while safely exposing multiple backend systems and data sources to partner firms.

“API management is part of a much broader effort to transform the airline into a real digital enterprise, but it’s an absolutely critical aspect of the process,” said Benjamin Hernandez, CIO of Aeromexico. “How you connect with the outside world – and how efficiently you can do it – is a make or break proposition for an organization of this size and complexity. Akana’s technologies give us a lot of confidence that we will be able to reap the rewards of digital business economically and securely.”

Aeromexico employs APIs and Akana’s API Management to extend its digital ecosystem. APIs make it possible for Aeromexico to expand its mobile app program and make it possible for partners, such as hotel chains and cruise ship lines, to tap into Aeromexico’s systems in real time. External developers will be able to create apps and websites that can access Aeromexico APIs. Akana’s solution lets Aeromexico create a controlled app developer community around its APIs. The Akana platform provides Aeromexico a way to manage the API traffic, authenticate and authorize API consumers, and monitor API performance and availability.

“We are excited to be part of Aeromexico’s transformation,” said Roberto Medrano, Executive Vice President of Akana. “Aeromexico is a very forward-looking organization, with ambitious goals for the digital future of travel.”

Akana Translates Between API Description Languages

Akana First to Offer Translation Between API Description Languages

Simplifies API Publishing and Consumption with Swagger, RAML, WADL and WSDL

LOS ANGELES – October 21, 2015 – Akana, a leading provider of API Management, API security and Cloud Integration Solutions, announced today that it is the first API Management platform to offer comprehensive support for the leading API description languages, including the ability to translate between them.  The unique ability to translate between different API description languages makes API publication and consumption faster and easier by allowing API administrators to easily define and publish their APIs using the language of their choice. Developers are then able to choose the description language they want to work with based on their own preferences.

“Akana’s new breakthrough in API description language mediation helps our customers quickly bring together their API providers and App developers,” said Alistair Farquharson, Akana CTO.  “API developers can define and document their APIs using a language like RAML, complete with interface definition, model objects and detailed instructions, and the Akana API platform generates all the other description languages with their own formats for interface, model object, and documentation, allowing App developers to choose a language like Swagger that aligns with their preferred development tools.”

There are four primary description languages today based on evolving standards for describing APIs: RESTful API Modelling Language (RAML), Swagger, Web Application Description Language (WADL) and Web Service Description Language (WSDL).  Each of these languages has its strengths and is best suited for one or more specific use-cases.  Some of the languages focus on providing a precise technical definition of the API interface and messages while others are designed to deliver easily consumable developer documentation.  This diversity of focus often leads to different preferences for API developers (providers), and App developers (consumers).

The Akana API Management platform allows API publishers to use whichever of the four primary API description languages they choose to define, document, and publish their API – even choosing different languages for definition and documentation if they wish.  It then automatically generates each of the other description language documents, allowing App developers to choose which description language they want to work with.  Combining this description language translation capability with the Akana API Gateway’s ability to easily mediate between different interface types (e.g. creating RESTful interfaces for SOAP services), provides a rich and powerful environment for bringing together different parts of the internal and external developer communities.

API description language mediation is now available in the latest release of the Akana API Management platform. Customers using the Akana Cloud platform will be automatically upgraded to the new version, while others can download the latest version from Akana Support. Akana Simplifies API Management Across Multiple Data Centers

Akana Brings Unprecedented Global Distribution and Internet Scale to APIs

Akana API Platform provides multi-datacenter operation with seamless distribution for scale and resilience

LOS ANGELES – September 15th, 2015 – Akana, a leading provider of API Management, API security and Cloud Integration solutions, announced today the launch of a next generation API Platform offering multi-datacenter geographic distribution and scale to help customers ensure that their APIs meet the needs of their global customer base with unprecedented levels of availability and resiliency.

Akana’s next generation API Platform addresses the distribution and scaling requirements of large enterprises, avoiding the pitfalls faced by standalone API Gateway instances.  Akana’s platform seamlessly shares configuration and operational data for things like auditing data, SLA processing, and quota management.  Amongst other benefits, this real-time sharing eliminates security vulnerabilities that other approaches can introduce by not sharing cryptographic nonce values across clusters and regions and so exposing their users to replay attacks.

Akana’s API Platform allows customers to create an “Akamai-like” global API network with a single logical platform deployed across multiple geographically distributed datacenters with features like:

  • Logically centralized, distributed configuration stores – all product instances behave identically across the distributed system
  • OAuth Token Distribution – tokens issued by one server are available everywhere supporting customer mobility and load-balancing and failover between data centers
  • Distributed SLA and quota processing – manage consumption and capacity for globally distributed APIs and Apps
  • Global analytics – analytics processing is driven across all storage instances to provide accurate analysis of all interactions regardless of source or target location
  • Seamless failover – if one server or even an entire datacenter goes offline there will be zero downtime failover with no loss of fidelity

“Akana’s API platform leverages the latest in modern architecture to provide unprecedented global scalability and availability to meet the needs of today’s large enterprise,” said Alistair Farquharson, Akana CTO.  “It leverages NoSQL (MongoDB), In-Memory Data Grid (Hazelcast), the latest search technologies (ElasticSearch) and a resilient microservices architecture to provide a unified platform across multiple data centers.”

Amongst the new technologies we are including in our next generation API Platform are:

  • No SQL storage – Mongo DB to support distributed storage of massive amounts of collected data with eventual consistency between data centers
  • In-memory data grid – Hazelcast to provide real-time sharing of critical data between instances both within and between data centers
  • Advanced Search – Elasticsearch for high-performance indexing and searching of all API metadata, documentation, forums, tickets, etc.
  • Microservices – the platform consists of a set of independently deployable and scalable microservices to enable rapid scaling and fault-tolerance

The new platform will be available in early Q4 both as on-premise software, and via the Akana Cloud that will deploy the platform in parallel with the public GA release of the software.  Many of the new capabilities have been developed to satisfy requirements driven by Akana Cloud customers and operations, and our on-premise customers are able to benefit from the exact same technologies that we use to scale and manage our own infrastructure.

Akana Introduces an API-driven Healthcare Solution

Akana Introduces API-Driven Digital Healthcare Solution

New Solution Enhances Interoperability of Patient Data Through FHIR-ready APIs and Connectivity to Propriety Data Sources

LOS ANGELES – August 26, 2015 – Akana, a leading provider of API Management, API security and Cloud Integration solutions, today announced the availability of the new Akana Healthcare Solution. The API-driven solution helps healthcare organizations accelerate their transition to being secure, digitally interoperable businesses. It leverages the Health Level Seven International Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (HL7 FHIR) standard to enable broader business use of medical data. Akana developed the Healthcare Solution in response to healthcare businesses that want to increase electronic, multi-device access to health records while reducing operating costs and complying with government regulations.

“APIs are key to interoperable healthcare, and in general, to a healthcare organization’s success in this consumer-led, connected world,” said Alistair Farquharson, CTO of Akana. “APIs unlock the data that is hidden in the electronic health records (EHRs) and standards like HL7 FHIR give us a common language to communicate. Akana’s Digital Healthcare solution reduces integration and operating costs, improves healthcare outcomes and enable businesses to innovate and unleash digital healthcare.”

Healthcare providers are embarking on the second and third stages of the Meaningful Use regulation, defined as having the ability to perform advanced clinical processing and improve patient outcomes. In order to be successful in leveraging EHR data for higher level processing and improved patient outcomes, the data locked within the EHR and other proprietary data sources must be made available for use in a secure and controlled manner. The Akana solution solves this problem by opening up secure access to data in EHRs.

Akana’s Healthcare Solution combines the power of the Akana API Management platform with HL7 FHIR and preconfigured healthcare assets to provide an end-to-end solution for API-enabled healthcare. This solution approach addresses a basic industry need. Multiple healthcare organizations must typically work together for a single patient’s healthcare outcome. The communication channels between the hospitals, specialists, labs and others serving the patient must be open and able to securely transfer EHR data. Using APIs reduces the time and cost of partner integration as well as improve patient outcomes with more readily available data. For healthcare partners that want to take advantage of APIs for this kind of data sharing, Akana’s Healthcare Solution manages the required API-related onboarding and communications. It allows for controlled, managed and secure access to the APIs carrying sensitive patient information between partners.

The Akana solution helps organization more easily secure and manage APIs that connect devices to EHRs in healthcare’s Internet of Things (IoT). Healthcare has long embraced the IoT concept. The transfer of data from healthcare devices into a patient’s EHR is a factor in that patient’s health outcome. It will affect the success of the healthcare provider and that of the device provider. The APIs delivering this data must be easily provisioned and integrated, secured, scalable, and auditable.

Akana’s Healthcare Solution focuses on the complete lifecycle of the API, starting with design and continuing through run and consumption. It offers DevOps and continuing delivery capabilities with audits and accountability. The Akana Healthcare Solution highlights include:

  • HL7 FHIR resources schema management.
  • HL7 FHIR resource profile validation and auto-provisioning.
  • HL7 FHIR server deployment and datasource mapping.
  • Centralized healthcare security policy management.
  • Micro-orchestration for healthcare document and message build out.
  • Policy-based data collection for regulatory and security compliance.
  • Healthcare partner onboarding and provisioning.
  • Enterprise internal and external API community management.

Akana 2015 Survey Points to API Security Becoming A CXO Level Concern

Findings Reveal API Security Gaining Priority but Implementation and Maturity Disparities Continue

LAS VEGAS, Black Hat Conference – August 5th, 2015 - Akana, a leading provider of API ManagementAPI Security and Cloud Integration solutions, today released the findings of its Global State of API Security Survey 2015 of over 250 security practitioners. Respondents include CSOs, CISOs, and security architects, with over 50% of the executives from large global organizations. Aimed at quantifying the maturity of API security practices among the leading digital enterprises, the survey results reveal that while the majority of respondents are taking steps to secure API access, only few had taken steps to ensure that sensitive data was being securely handled in the Apps that access their APIs.

This is the first survey conducted by Akana on API Security. They undertook the survey in light of APIs fast becoming a dominant channel of exchanging data between both external and internal audiences and services. Just as the emergence of Web brought web-based threats and resulting countermeasures to the forefront, the survey indicated universal recognition from security practitioners of increasing threats and vulnerabilities that are unique to the API channel.

Key Survey Findings:

  • More than 65% of the respondents reported that they do not have processes in place to ensure that the data being accessed by applications consuming their APIs is managed securely. With mobile apps and IoTs increasingly acting as API consumers, enterprises face exposure to threats of unauthorized access to data once accessed through an API. Almost 60% of survey respondents indicated that they were not securing API consumers.
  • A large proportion of survey respondents (>45%) also did not rate limit access to their APIs, a control that can reduce the risk of hacking.
  • API security is as much an issue for the business as it is for IT, with 75% of respondents saying that API security was a CIO-level concern and 65% indicating it was an issue for business managers. As APIs are increasingly being adopted to drive digital initiatives, both business and IT see greater value in securing them.
  • JSON Scheme, DDoS, Message-Level security, Encryption were amongst the top API security threats.

The survey suggests an emerging digital divide as high-performing companies embrace core digital capabilities and APIs to move ahead. As APIs are gaining adoption, enterprises need to recognize and take steps to mitigate the additional threat vectors to their data and organizations.

“APIs are new enough in the enterprise that people want the latest on how industry peers are dealing with security threats,” said Roberto Medrano, EVP at Akana. “We felt there was an opportunity to ask others to share their insights and worries. The survey report should be a helpful starting point for determining best practices in API security going forward.”

Akana Healthcare analytics provides healthcare and operational analytics to stay ahead of emerging demands and optimize their business:

  • Track patient, provider, and healthcare professional trends
  • Identify top APIs and top Apps, analyze API licensing, monetization and fine tune developer onboarding
  • Export and Import analytics into Business Intelligence systems.

Metadata Management - Efficiently Manage Data Lifecycle

In any industry where data is a major component for compliance (e.g., Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical), regulators need to efficiently review and process the submitted data. To achieve these goals, many regulators have established data standards. Data standards alone are not enough to overcome these issues. Only through Semantic Interoperability can regulatory agencies and industry achieve benefits from these standards. By binding systems to robust common domain terminology produced by standards development organizations (SDOs), industry can more efficiently implement end-to-end data lifecycle processes.

Akana Introduces DevOps Automation Across API Development and API Management

Accelerates Time to Market; Helps IT Speed API Delivery to Business

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – June 2nd, 2015 – Akana, a leading provider of API Management, API Security and Cloud Integration solutions, today announced that it is introducing DevOps automation to the API lifecycle. New capabilities in Akana’s API Management platform significantly reduce the time required to update API definitions and versions. DevOps teams will be able work faster in designing and developing APIs, as well as managing them at runtime and publishing them to a portal. The move brings Akana’s robust, proven API management technology to the emerging DevOps discipline, helping speed up provisioning of APIs to developers and partners while improving alignment of IT processes and business initiatives.

DevOps merges software development and IT operations in a unified workflow, with continuous updating of applications in production. As a result, DevOps has an impact on the API lifecycle, typically requiring manual intervention. DevOps and continuous integration principles also affect security and operational policies governing APIs. Changes to API definitions that result from new builds have to be propagated to the API Portal. The API owner then has to update the documentation. To date, these kinds of changes to policy and API documentation have been performed through disconnected manual processes that require several actors across IT and the business. Akana now brings DevOps automations to a typical API Lifecycle.

Accelerate Time to Market
“APIs have fast become the de-facto standard for digital enterprises to connect applications and services with digital end-points like mobile apps and internet-of-things,” said Brent Carlson, Senior Vice President, Technology, at Akana. “With this new capability, enterprises can deliver continuous innovation with speed and agility, ensuring that new updates and capabilities are automatically, efficiently and securely delivered to their developers and partners, in a timely fashion and without manual intervention.”

Key components of Akana’s updated solution for DevOps automation include:

  • Integration with continuous integration platforms such as Jenkins and TeamCity.
  • Provision for appropriate approvals to push updates to API Portal and API Gateway.
  • Support for standard API descriptor documents types, such as Swagger, RAML and WADL.

Support for Continuous Integration Platforms
Akana Lifecycle Manager’s support for continuous integration platforms such as Jenkins and TeamCity can now be extended to include automated API portal provisioning. Driven by an inbound event from an organization’s build tooling of choice, Akana Lifecycle Manager can route the selected build output through appropriate approvals as per customer requirements. Once approval is granted (or automatically given based on configuration), Akana can automatically refresh the API definition and supporting productization content (e.g., detailed user documentation, updated licensing models for partner or end-user consumption, updated iconography) to the customer’s Community Manager-based API portal.

Source API Content from Leading SCMs and API Description Languages
With the Akana solution working in a DevOps context, developers can source API content from leading Software Configuration Managers (SCMs) such as GitHub, Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS), IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC) among many others via Lifecycle Manager’s AnySource Asset Adapter (ASAA) content automation framework. Akana’s integrated API automation and management suite supports standard API descriptor document types including Swagger, RAML, WADL and WSDL. The combination of Lifecycle Manager’s fully configurable process automation capabilities with Akana Community Manager’s rich set of REST APIs enables customers to eliminate the potential for human error during API publication and update.

Akana to unify Security, Management, and DevOps across SOA, APIs, and Microservices

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – March 10, 2015 – SOA Software, a leading provider of API Management, SOA Governance and Cloud Integration solutions, announced today that it has changed its name to Akana.

With roots in Web Services and SOA Governance, Akana has established itself as a leader in API Management and is expanding into cloud integration as an alternative to the traditional heavyweight enterprise service bus (ESB). The company recently announced that it achieved more than 90% year-over-year growth.  As Akana, the company now addresses the evolution and diversification of SOA, unifying security, management, and DevOps across SOA, APIs, microservices, and more.

“Enterprises today need a ‘digital glue’ to securely extend their data to their ecosystem, build efficient partner networks and digital value-chains, and extract intelligent insights into their business through analytics,” said Paul Gigg, CEO, Akana. “Akana remains committed to providing innovative and flexible solutions to address the continuously evolving needs of both our customers and the market as a whole.”

Service Oriented Architecture remains a solid foundation for enterprises, and has diverged to include APIs and microservices. APIs connect across business and technology boundaries to bring diverse resources and capabilities precisely to the place where they are needed to improve customer engagement and drive business value. The emergence of the microservices paradigm delivers flexibility and scalability to the development and deployment of service-based applications.

The Akana platform provides the following capabilities:

  • Developer Engagement – an API portal to publish and document APIs and engage developers.
  • API Gateway – a high-performance, secure API Gateway that combines the mediation, orchestration, and connectivity capabilities of a lightweight ESB with the performance and security of a traditional proxy style Gateway.
  • Lifecycle Management – enables enterprises to effectively collaborate between business, developers and IT operations, resulting in rapid development and deployment cycles while increasing reliability, stability and availability of their APIs and supporting assets.
  • Analytics – a flexible analytics platform that provides dashboards for business analytics, service level analytics and operational analytics.

Microservices

Microservices

Service Oriented Architecture remains a solid foundation for enterprises, and has diverged to include APIs and microservices. APIs help with the consumption and distribution of business capabilities as sharable services, and now the emergence of the microservices paradigm delivers flexibility and scalability to the development and deployment of service-based applications.

Akana helps enterprises to build web-scale, distributed and decoupled applications that are composed of microservices. Akana enables policy based DevOps automation and a runtime platform that provides service discovery, registry, security enforcement, scaling, routing and auditing of microservices on a variety of containerization and/or cloud platforms.

channels

Componentization

Akana helps enterprises deliver applications as a series of microservices (components) that operate independently from each other.

  • Identify appropriate components for delivery as microservices
  • Manage the versions and lifecycle of each microservice independently
  • Manage the application topology as a set of related blueprints to understand dependencies
build

Scalability & Resilience

Scale your applications up and down on demand to meet the rapidly growing and changing nature of your customer’s needs.

  • Scale each microservice independently based on real-time usage needs
  • Provide high-availability with load-balancing over just enough redundant instances to support load should one instance fail
Monetize

Security

Ensure that individual microservices enforce appropriate security policies to minimize the risk of data breach.

  • Centrally define policies based on business and technology classifications
  • Audit the application and enforcement of policies to eliminate risk
build

Containerization

Take advantage of lightweight container platforms for microservice deployment while still providing the core capabilities required by an enterprise services environment.

  • Create managed container instances for easy deployment of secure microservices
  • Automate the registration and discovery of microservices instances with container configuration tasks
Monetize

DevOps

One of the core tenets of microservices is that Developers are responsible for deploying and operating their own code. In this environment, it is even more critical than ever to provide effective control and auditing over the complete SDLC including the deployment blueprint.

  • Manage the development lifecycle and assets, including the application topology and deployment blueprints
  • Maintain an audited approval process to control changes to key assets
build

Monitoring & Analytics

Understand the health, performance, and usage of a distributed application is never easy. Breaking an application up into completely independent microservices further complicates this challenge.

  • Operate and manage each microservice independently while retaining central visibility into performance and behavior
  • Audit and track transactions through the entire system for optimization and root cause analysis

SOA Software Validated for PCI DSS 3.0

Cloud Software Passes Rigorous Updating Path for Payment Card Security Standards

PCI LONDON, LONDON UK – 22 JANUARY, 2015 – SOA Software, an API Management, API Security, and Cloud Integration leader that helps businesses accelerate their digital transformation by securely extending their reach across multiple channels, announced that its API Management solution and cloud offering have been validated for compliance with version 3.0 of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).  Last year, SOA Software attained compliance with PCI DSS 2.0.  To attain validation again, the company underwent a series of rigorous audits by an independent Quality Security Assessor (QSA) to ensure that it met best practices and security controls needed to keep sensitive data secure during transit, processing and storage.

“Going through the validation process for PCI DSS 3.0 compliance keeps us at the forefront of cloud-based providers who can handle credit card transactions that involve APIs and cloud integration,” said Alistair Farquharson, CTO of SOA Software. “We invested in this next round of compliance as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a well-governed, high-quality IT service environment.”

SOA Software is now recognized as an approved Level 2 Service Provider for major credit card brands with the latest version of PCC DSS.  PCC DSS 3.0 includes expanded compliance requirements in areas such as software development reviews and testing procedures. As part of its standard security measures, the SOA Software PCI-Compliant Cloud employs multi-layer protection and data access limitations. It also monitors, defends against and mitigates cyber assaults and threats. Features include antivirus management, vulnerability scanning, a secure audit trail and resource tracking along with round-the-clock technical support by comprehensively trained SOA Software staff to maximize uptime and availability and enhance security.

PCI DSS is a proprietary information security standard for organizations that handle cardholder information for the major debit, credit, prepaid, e-purse, ATM and POS cards.  SOA Software’s continuing engagement with PCI DSS certifications allows it to advise customers on the most appropriate security best practices, irrespective of their industry.  SOA Software’s counsel can help ensure that APIs are built on a compliant platform and extended in a compliant fashion, required tasks are dealt with by the most appropriate parties and nothing gets overlooked as enterprises roll out their APIs.

SOA Software Eases API Management With New Multi-API Description Language Support

Allows API teams the freedom to work the way they want to work with RAML, Swagger, WSDL and WADL

January 13th, 2015, Los Angeles - SOA Software, an API Management and Cloud Integration leader that helps businesses accelerate their digital transformation by securely extending their reach across multiple channels, today announced the latest release of API Management solution.  The solution now provides the broadest support for API description languages including RAML, Swagger, WSDL, and WADL.  With SOA Software’s API Management platform’s support for multiple API Description Languages (API DL), enterprises can secure, manage, and monetize APIs described in RAML, Swagger, WSDL, or WADL consistently across the enterprise from one platform.  Customers no longer have to make the choice of an API DL based on what a platform can or cannot support.

In addition, customers don’t have to choose just one API DL for the entire enterprise.  They can allow each team to chose the API DL that best suits the way they work and yet have consistent centralized control to ensure the APIs meet enterprise standards and policies.  The architecture team may choose RAML to design the API top down and generate the initial stubbed code.  The developers may then choose to document the final code by running Swagger codegen that is then displayed in the developer portal.

“API DL languages are still evolving. New API languages are emerging and as of now, there is no clear leader.  The API language that is right for one organization may not fit the working style of the next organization.” said Alistair Farquharson, CTO of SOA Software.  “SOA Software’s API Management platform’s API DL capability has been designed with the changing API DL landscape and the dynamic enterprise in mind.  Most enterprise will have at least two API DL to manage at one time, especially if they have any existing SOAP-based APIs.”

Multi-API DL is supported by SOA Software’s platform throughout the API lifecycle, enabling users to manage wherever in the lifecycle they choose.  For example, a user may choose to forgo design time management and just manage in the runtime. The API DL can be imported directly into:

  • SOA Software’s Lifecycle Manager for design time governance and deployment automation.  Once imported, design time policies can be validated and runtime policies can be attached automatically.  With one click in Lifecycle Manager, the user can automate the deployment of the API to the API Gateway and to Community Manager.
  • SOA Software’s API Gateway for runtime management where security, operational, mediation and quality of service policies can be applied and cloud integrations and orchestrations can be performed.
  • SOA Software’s Community Manager for developer engagement and onboarding. Community Manager allows the API Providers to control publication, manage documentation, promote and support their APIs.

Additionally, Software’s AnySource Asset Adapter can integrate with SCM and build tooling to generate the API DL of your choice directly from the source code and import into SOA Software’s Lifecycle Manager.

Los Angeles, CA – December 2nd, 2014 – SOA Software, an API Management and Cloud Integration leader that helps businesses accelerate their digital transformation by securely extending their reach across multiple channels, today introduced EnVision, an API analytics platform that leverages MongoDB as its data store. With SOA Software EnVision, enterprises obtain critical information about interactions occurring across their digital eco-systems, understand their customers and partners, and gain the ability to offer value-added personalized services. Customers can derive insights and understand key drivers that affect their businesses and take actions to further optimize and achieve growth.

“As enterprises embrace mobile-first and digital initiatives, capturing insights from interactions between the backend applications and the various customer touch-points has become critical for businesses,” said Alistair Farquharson, CTO of SOA Software. “SOA Software EnVision allows businesses to gain intelligent insights by collecting, introspecting and correlating data and interactions across these digital eco-systems and understanding the impact of specific actions or events.”

SOA Software EnVision is an integrated, out-of-the-box analytics platform built to address the needs of digital businesses.  It was designed as an analytics platform for the SOA Software API Management solution, providing integrated analytics for the business and operational aspects of APIs.
